Day 1: Tofino The Pacific region of Vancouver
Island is renowned for pristine beaches, whale watching, wilderness camping and
hiking, incredible fishing, and awesome winter storm The picturesque, coastal
district of Tofino is an intriguing contrast of old-growth forests, white sand
beaches, and the ever-churning Pacific Ocean. Tofino, in the centre of Clayoquot
Sound, was recently designated B.C.’s first United Nations Biosphere Reserve.
Along the way you will be driving through ancient Rain forests. You will stay at
a beautiful Lodge at the edge of the Pacific Ocean, right on the
beach.
Day 2: Tofino – Whale watch tour Today it is time to
explore the Pacific Rim. Take a walk along the beach and admire the surfers
challenging the waves. Visit Tofino and take in the local atmosphere. Visit the
provincial parks and learn about Native history. During your stay you will head
out on an exciting marine wild life excursion out into the Clayoquot Sound.
During this excursion you will stop and visit the many eagles, and watch them
build nests, tend to their young, fish, and soar on the air currents above. The
journey continues over the traditional feeding grounds of the grey whale. We
must be ever watchful for pods of orcas (killer whales) as they pass through on
their hunt for food. Stops may be made to view seal and sea lion colonies at
their local haul-outs. In this region you see grey whales, orcas, humpbacks and
minkies. Throughout these cruises you are on the lookout, and often see
porpoises, sunfish, river otters, and sea otters. The guides take pride in
sharing both history and relative native folklore throughout the entire
cruise. Accommodation: Long Beach Lodge, ocean view room
